Who We Are
Overcoming Toxic Emotions began as a women’s support group in 2013. In 2017, Reverend Maria Payne and her daughter-in-law, Melinda Zuñiga, expanded that vision by establishing the Overcoming Toxic Emotions Ministry (OTEM) as a nonprofit organization. Both women experienced seasons of emotional struggle themselves and recognized the need for a safe, faith-based space where women could speak openly about real-life challenges.
Together, they created OTEM as a place for women to share their experiences, confront toxic emotions, and find healing through Christ. The ministry’s mission is to provide an atmosphere of authenticity and spiritual restoration, where women can experience the freedom that only the Lord can give.
Reverend Maria Payne brings years of experience in biblical counseling and training through the American Association of Christian Counselors and Light University. Melinda has been serving women in ministry for over a decade, walking alongside them in their journey toward wholeness.
Since its founding, OTEM has supported countless women in breaking free from emotional pain and walking in lasting freedom. We believe that true healing is found in God’s Word, and we stand on the promise of Galatians 5:1: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”
OTEM has a dynamic team that God has filled with a passion to serve women. We want to see women reach their full, God-given potential so that HE is glorified in and through them.
